Armor Seed Sales Representative Curt Preston majored in ag business and went to work for a regional seed company. The Monticello, Arkansas, native learned when he was still an intern that he liked talking to people and calling on farmers. “I was all in at Armor from the start. It never crossed my mind that it wouldn’t work,” he says. “We’re where we are today because we always do what’s right for the grower. “In the beginning, it was just a few of us meeting in the little conference room at Fisher. We had some good varieties and we had some good production years early on. That re- ally helped get us started. We had some dealers that really supported us and some growers that really supported us, and that made all the differ- ence in the world.” Matthew Harvey worked for Mark Waldrip’s East Arkansas Seed before selling for Armor. “Early on, the vision and the planning by the owners was crucial for our later suc- cess,” he says. “Hiring great people like Dr. Lanny Ashlock and Jeff Pangle, people with a reputation and a high level of trust among farmers, has also been crucial. We tried hard to be part of the communities we lived and worked in and growers appreci- ated that too. It builds value in the company.” Perhaps Jeff Pangle sums the Armor sales philosophy up best: “When you Sales retreat in Calico Rock, Arkansas, July 2003.
