Now 46, Phipps embarked on his career in the seed busi- ness when he was just 14 years old, working on the packaging line at the former Cullum Seeds (now Armor Seed.) He advanced in the company, first as a warehouse manager through college and a production manager afterward. By the age of 27, Phipps became owner, managing part- ner and CEO of Armor Seed, a position he has held since. He credits climbing the ladder with teaching him the important lessons he needed to learn to ensure Armor’s long-term success. It enabled him to have a hand in, and understand, all aspects of the business including financial statements, cash management, system analysis, operations, logistics and software integration. Phipps holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Business, and a Master of Science in Ag Management with a Minor in Accounting, both from Arkansas State University (ASU). He and his wife, Christy reside in Jonesboro where he enjoys football, teaching Sunday School, and keeping up with an ever-changing number of beloved rescue dogs. Kelly and Christy Phipps, 2001
