As we approach the end of the year, it’s a good time to reflect on the season. I’m grateful for the customers and retailers I’ve been able to support this year. Together, we had some big wins on the farm with Armor Seed. Here are just a few season highlights.
Armor Cotton and Soybeans Offered Consistent Performance
Throughout the Delta region, Armor cotton and soybean varieties held strong against seasonal challenges. Armor 9371 B3XF cotton continues to offer excellent regional performance, with broad adaptability across the Cotton Belt. This early-mid maturity variety has an attractive plant type with a medium to slightly aggressive growth habit.
Armor soybean varieties have been fierce competitors among leading brands, with newer Enlist E3 ® and XtendFlex ® genetics performing exceptionally well. Armor 51-F29 and 71-F12 were two top performers in their respective maturity zones.
The Armor Difference
While yield potential is always top of mind for farmers choosing seed varieties, with today’s genetics, there may not always be much product differentiation based on yield potential alone. Success with a particular variety is more likely due to proper positioning in-season management. One of the biggest advantages of working with Armor Seed is we are part of WinField® United, with access to years of local and regional data to guide product placement and management. So, not only are you getting high-quality genetics, but you’re also getting the information and support from your local retailer to manage those products to realize their top-end yield potentials.
Armor Seed products are rigorously tested and vetted before they hit the market, so you can have confidence that they’ll perform consistently in conditions like yours. With access to a diverse genetic pool, Armor Seed can customize its portfolio based on regional challenges, ensuring only the best products make it into a bag.
In addition to these benefits, Armor Seed works with dealers to ensure that farmer-friendly financing options are available and easily accessible for our growers through the SECURE™ financing program. With flexible repayment terms and the ability to apply credit across WinField United partner brands, SECURE financing helps you extend your purchasing power while taking advantage of early-order and prepay incentives.
Success Stories from 2024
Armor Seed growers had some big wins from Arkansas to Georgia last season. Here are a few successes a couple of our local retailers shared:
Soybeans
- A farmer in Arkansas had some heavy-soil acres that were typically tough to manage. Using placement data, the dealer recommended Armor Seed 48-F55 soybeans, an XtendFlex variety. This variety averaged around 95 bushels per acre, a new record for this particular piece of ground. Newer Armor genetics and an upgraded trait package took this farm to the next yield level on some of its toughest acres.
- In south Georgia, a soybean grower found the Armor 71-F12 variety outyielded every other soybean variety on sandy soils by 10+ bushels per acre, with averages ranging from 60 to 90 bushels relative to the area.
- In south Alabama, Armor 51-F29 yielded an average of 70 bushels per acre in a sandy soil environment with historical yield averages of mid-50 bushels per acre.
Cotton
- A Georgia grower experimented with Armor Seed 9831 B3XF cotton across his irrigated and dry acres, and it was some of the best cotton yields he’d ever seen. Armor cotton delivered high-quality bolls and impressive yield even on a sandy soil type in heat and drought-stressed conditions.
- A southeast Alabama grower achieved 1450-pound-per-acre yield under irrigation on heavy red soil with Armor Seed 9831 B3XF. Typical historical yield in this environment average about 1,200 pounds per acre.
Tips for Success Next Season
As these grower stories demonstrate, with proper planning and product placement, overcoming even the toughest production challenges is possible. I encourage you to crunch your data in as many ways as possible to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and cost savings next season while maximizing yield potential. If you’re new to the Armor Seed brand, trust that your local retailers have been trained to select the best products for your acres and have vetted data to support those decisions. Contact your local dealer for product information and recommendations for the upcoming season.
